Boston Cream Donut

A yeast-raised donut of notable vertical ambition, filled to structural capacity with pastry cream and finished across its crown with a layer of chocolate glaze thick enough to require its own load-bearing calculations; esp. one whose profile, viewed from the side, reads less as pastry and more as a civic commitment.

From Boston, city in Massachusetts, the name itself deriving from Boston, Lincolnshire, England, a contraction of 'Botolph's town' after the 7th-century saint; combined with cream, from Old English crēam, from Old French cresme, from Late Latin chrisma meaning 'anointing oil.' The pastry is a donut adaptation of Boston Cream Pie, itself the official state dessert of Massachusetts since 1996, which is frankly the most correct decision a legislature has ever made.
