Roast Chicken

/ROHST CHIK-in/  n.
  1. 1. A whole bird, roasted until the skin achieves a taut, mahogany lacquer, distinguished by a posterior silhouette of such confident breadth that plating it breast-forward feels, to the trained eye, like a missed opportunity.
  2. 2. colloq. Rested on a rack, back to the room, the drumsticks splayed in a posture that can only be described as settled. She did not come to the table to be ignored.
In a sentence:

"The roast chicken came out of the oven so thiccc that the rack held its breath. The resting juices pooled in the back, as they always do, where the weight lives."

Etymology:

From Old English rostan (to roast, via heat on a spit) and Old English cicen (young fowl), the latter from Proto-Germanic kiukinam, related to cock and hen by obvious family resemblance. The bird has been prepared this way since at least the 14th century, which means humanity spent seven hundred years perfecting a silhouette and only recently developed the vocabulary to describe it correctly.

The posterior silhouette of a roast chicken is, frankly, the whole argument for this catalogue existing.

Ruling ADMITTED, WITH A FOOTNOTE

Bart PrussSenior Cataloguer

The rack held its position. Racks are built for this. Footnote: the weight lives in the back. Admitted.

Submitted: a yardstick. A yardstick is long and flat but honestly the proportions from the side are kind of committed to a shape.

It is a stick. It has one dimension on purpose.
