Gyoza

/gyoh-ZAH/  n.
  1. 1. A Japanese pan-fried dumpling of pleated construction, distinguished by a crescent silhouette that, when properly executed, exhibits a pronounced lateral swell from filling-to-wrapper ratio that no diet of restraint could produce.
  2. 2. colloq. Seared flat on one side and curved everywhere else. The pleat is structural. The belly is the point.
In a sentence:

"The izakaya in Shinjuku served a plate of thiccc gyoza, each one seated on the cast-iron like it had paid for the table. The pleats alone were load-bearing."

Etymology:

From Japanese gyoza, itself a borrowing of Mandarin jiaozi (餃子), meaning 'horn-shaped dumpling,' from jiao (horn) and zi (diminutive suffix). The 'horn' referred to the crescent shape. Nobody at the time anticipated how much filling would eventually be involved.

My personal shopper in Milan served these at her studio opening and the pleat-work alone stopped conversation.

Ruling ADMITTED, WITH A FOOTNOTE

Bart PrussSenior Cataloguer

The lateral swell is attributed to filling-to-wrapper ratio, which is a structural explanation, not a boast. Footnote: the horn reference aged poorly. Admitted.

The crescent silhouette achieving a pronounced lateral swell entirely through internal pressure and expert pleating is honestly one of the most elegant load-distribution arguments any dumpling has ever made.

Seared flat on one side and curved everywhere else. The pleat is structural. The belly is the point.

Is "thiccc" spelled with three c's?

Yes. The Thiccctionary house spelling uses three c's, distinguishing the editorial register from the colloquial "thicc" (two c's) and standard "thick" (one c).
