Pumpkin, Atlantic Giant
/PUMP-kin uh-TLAN-tik JY-uhnt/ n.- 1. A cultivar of pumpkin renowned for its prodigious girth, cultivated primarily for competitive size and decorative impact.
- 2. slang. A rotund botanical marvel that embodies the essence of thicccness, overshadowing all other gourds with unapologetic volume.
"The Pumpkin, Atlantic Giant, sat in the garden plot at thiccc weight, the kind of specimen requiring two volunteers and a cushioned dolly to relocate."
The term 'pumpkin' traces back to the Greek pepon, 'large melon,' via Middle French pompon. The 'Atlantic Giant' variety was developed by Howard Dill in Nova Scotia in the 1970s; the current world-record specimen, set in Minnesota in 2023, weighed 2,749 pounds. The cultivar's name, in this context, reads less as boast than as plain description.
