Teapot

/TEE-pot/  n.
  1. 1. A vessel for brewing and serving tea, characterized by a globular or pear-shaped body, a fixed spout, and a lid; esp. one whose belly-to-spout ratio suggests the body was the original point and the spout was added as an afterthought.
  2. 2. colloq. Short, stout, and here about it. The silhouette reads as a commitment: all that curve concentrated in the midsection, the spout jutting forward with the confidence of a hood ornament on something that does not need to go fast.
In a sentence:

"The glass teapot at the back of the shelf, fat with pu-erh, was so thiccc that the surrounding mugs had quietly redistributed themselves. The spout was decorative at that point."

Etymology:

From tea (via Dutch thee, from Malay teh, from Min Nan Chinese te) + pot (Middle English, from Old English pott, of uncertain Germanic origin, attested before the 12th century). The vessel was named for its contents and its container, which is like naming a cathedral after the door and the air inside. The belly went unacknowledged. The belly was always the point.

The belly is the entire vessel and the spout is genuinely a footnote and I mean that architecturally.

Ruling PROVISIONAL

Bart PrussSenior Cataloguer

Belly-to-spout ratio must be confirmed before 'spout as afterthought' enters the permanent record. Pending measurement.

In the margin

There was a teapot at the ski chalet, very round, very serious. The chalet is gone but I think about that teapot more than I think about the chalet.

Frequently asked

Is a teapot thiccc?

Yes. Teapot was admitted to the Thiccctionary on August 25, 2026 and filed in the Domestic Goods section. The ruling on file: Provisional. Every subject in the catalogue is judged on its curves, not its size.

What makes a teapot thiccc?

Short, stout, and here about it. The silhouette reads as a commitment: all that curve concentrated in the midsection, the spout jutting forward with the confidence of a hood ornament on something that does not need to go fast.

Is "thiccc" spelled with three c's?

Yes. The Thiccctionary house spelling uses three c's, distinguishing the editorial register from the colloquial "thicc" (two c's) and standard "thick" (one c).
