Rubber Duck

/RUB-er duk/  n.
  1. 1. A hollow, buoyant bathing toy cast in vulcanized rubber or soft vinyl, historically palm-sized, here emphatically not; esp. the oversized public-installation variety, in which the original form has been scaled to architectural consequence and the rear curvature is understood to be the whole point.
  2. 2. slang. Built like a buoy, shaped like a dream. The bill is decorative. The back half is the whole conversation, and she is not showing it here.
In a sentence:

"The harbor commission installed a thiccc rubber duck in the slip between two container ships, and by Tuesday the container ships felt self-conscious. She sits low in the water, and she does it on purpose."

Etymology:

From rubber (vulcanized natural latex, process patented by Charles Goodyear, 1844) + duck (Old English duce, 'diver,' from the bird's habit of ducking underwater). The toy form is attributed to sculptor Peter Ganine's 1940s patent; the giant public-installation form is attributed to Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, c. 2007, who apparently looked at a bath toy and thought: more.

The posterior curvature reads from low orbit. The harbor commission's emotional response is atmospheric and will not appear in the final record.
