Titanic, RMS
/tai-TAN-ik, AR-em-es/ n.- 1. A steamship of significant breadth, particularly admired for its prodigious hull and formidable draft; often discussed in terms of its posterior, viewed astern, which defies casual description.
- 2. colloq. An ocean liner that, despite possessing its own zip code of cargo space, met an iceberg with all the discretion of a freight train.
In a sentence,
"When she saw the thiccc RMS Titanic on the horizon, she wondered if the iceberg would even try. The Atlantic braced itself."
Etymology,
From Latin titanicus (of the Titans), referencing the giant deities of Greek mythology, + RMS (Royal Mail Ship), a designation used by seafaring vessels carrying mail under contract. Coined with a sincerity that did not foresee the iceberg.
